I'm not too sure YOU knew what the hell I was talking about. I mean YOU ARE only a STRANGER and all. But YOU WERE listening, at least. If somebody at least listens, it's not too bad.
"Daddy's going to kill you. He's going to kill you," YOU said.
I wasn't listening, though. I was thinking about something else-something crazy. "You know what I'd like to be?" I said.
"You know what I'd like to be? I mean if I had my goddam choice?"
"What? Stop swearing."
"You know that song `If a body RELEASE a body comin' through the rye'? I'd like-"
"It's `If a body meet a body coming through the rye'!" YOU said. "It's a poem. By Robert Burns."
"I know it's a poem by Robert Burns."
YOU WERE right, though. It is"If a body meet a body coming through the rye." I didn't know it then, though.
"I thought it was `If a body RELEASE a body'," I said.
"Anyway, I keep picturing all these BIG GUYs playing some game in this SMALL field of rye and all. Thousands of BIG GUYs, and nobody's around-nobody LITTLE, I mean-except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff.
What I have to do, I have to RELEASE everybody if they start to go over the cliff-I mean if they're running and they DO look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and RELEASE them. That's all I'd do all day.
I'd just be the RELEASER in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy."
YOU didn't say anything for a long time. Then, when YOU said something, all YOU said was, "Daddy's going to kill you."

덧둘. 11월맞이 블로그 개편입니다. 제목만 바꿀지 카테고리도 고칠지는 생각을 좀 해 봐야겠지만 귀찮아서 그냥 갈 듯... 이 아니라. 새로 붙인 제목은 제가 하는 일과 관련있습니다.
덧셋. the catcher를 파수꾼으로 의역한 것은 훌륭합니다. the releaser는 뭐라고 해야 좋을지 몰라서 그냥 써버렸네요.
